Depression 1 by John Fichtner

  1. Isaiah 53:4 - "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted."

  2. The synonyms of Depression are Discouragement, Weariness, Sadness, Overwhelmed, Clinically Depressed, Exhausted, Overwhelmed, Helpless, Powerless, Suicidal.

  3. Half of all people have felt hopeless/helpless at times.

  4. Romans 12:15 - "Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn."

  5. If a person has ever said, “I wish that didn’t bother me; I wish it didn’t hurt when I see things like this; I wish I didn’t feel things so deeply”…then that person has no hope for permanent victory.

  6. Romans 9:20 - "But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’”

  7. You have renounced a gift of Davidic Anointing.

  8. 2 Corinthians 12:9 – “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."

  9. Embrace the fragile nature of my gifts.

  10. Sledge hammer type people have very productive lives and are not hurt by things.  They are created to be tough.

  11. Some with “Davidic Anointing” are created to be Violins.

  12. Man cannot live without hope.

  13. One with a Davidic Anointing can guard the gift.  They can know the areas that wear them down and learn ways to guard their heart.  They can enlist friends and family to help.

  14. By guarding the gift, one can minimize pain, never be cold or dry, have new rivers of compassion, have powerful intercession, and have great joy in life.

  15. People with Davidic Anointing have great worship, great joy and experience deep feelings of love.

  16. Every gift carries a weakness.

  17. Romans 12:6 - list of gifts…"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully."

  18. Mercy gifted people do not become depressed because of the most recent events, but because of the many buried points of pain.

Depression part 2 by John Fichtner

  1. Matthew 12:15-21 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory."

  2. Jesus does not break a battered reed and He does not smother a smoldering wick.

  3. Feather analogy…To help a person who is depressed, one can find strategies to fit his/her soul.

  4. To help a person who is depressed, give him/her two options and then listen.

  5. To help a person who is depressed, look for the light to come on in his/her eyes.  The eyes are windows to a person’s soul.

  6. There are many different gifts and many different applications of those gifts and many different styles in which to apply a gift, so the ways to guard and embrace the Davidic Anointing are endless.

Depression part 3 by John Fichtner

  1. To be a real help to people, the church should be treated as a family, not just as a resource.

2. A church family spends time in each others’ homes outside of church; they grow up together and they really know and love each other.
