Welcome From Pastor John
I am honored and excited that you are visiting with us on the web. As the Founding Pastors, my wife and I have been awestruck and overwhelmed by how richly Jesus has blessed this ministry. If you decide to visit us at a service, we would love to have you come up and introduce yourself to us, so that we can welcome you personally.
Beth & I grew up right here in Marietta. I graduated from Wheeler High School in 1975 and Beth graduated from Walton High School in 1981. After graduating from Liberty Bible College in Pensacola Florida, I was an Assistant Pastor at Liberty Church in Birmingham, Alabama for 5 years. Beth graduated from Sanford University in Birmingham and is a Registered Nurse.
In Bible College the Lord spoke to me that my lifetime calling would be here in Marietta. That calling was fulfilled in July 1986 as Beth and I pioneered Liberty Church. For four months we met on Sunday nights in a Lutheran Church Building. Beginning in November 1986, we rented the Strand Theater on the square in Marietta for 7 years.
In the fall of 1993 we moved into our permanent facility here on Hwy. 41.
The Lord Jesus has spoken to me on two separate occasions and told me that I will pastor this church for the rest of my life on this earth. I am a very young and healthy 46 years old. When you know that you are going to be at one church for 50-60 years, you build differently than if you are planning on being there briefly. I deeply desire to see Liberty Church be one of many churches God uses to bring glory to Jesus in North Atlanta.
Jesus is our passion, the center of our hearts, our lives and everything we do. Our primary vision is to obey Jesus in everything. As we draw close to Jesus, He has made it clear that His vision for this church is summed up in the phrases on the Home Page of this web site. Our vision is to be Spirit-Filled, Multicultural and to have Small Church Friendships with Large Church Excellence.
It may take a few minutes for some people to grasp the concept of One Church with Six Congregations. Reading each congregationís web page will probably help. Mostly this vision is birthed through my passionate belief that church is meant to be a place where you have many dear, close friendships. We are structured so that 100% of our members can easily get involved, get connected and have deep, close friendships.
Our church is under the covering of Reconciliation Ministries, which is led by Bishop Joseph Garlington of Pittsburgh, PA. Bishop Garlington is widely known as a speaker at Promise Keeper Rallies, as a Worship Leader and as a Pastor of Pastors. He is one of the most well known and respected Christian leaders across the world. Beyond that he is also one of my dearest friends.
Again, I would like to thank you for visiting with us. If you come to a service, I will look forward to greeting you.
Yourís in Christís Abundant Love,
