Trust vs. Forgiveness

Pastor John Fichtner

  1. Trust in the heart of God first and ask; am I trustworthy?
  2. Ministry goals should ultimately bring us into the deeper things of God.
  3. Trust is a gift earned and must be proven one step at a time.
  4. Desire the riches of God's heart above all the riches of this world; seek truth.
  5. Be faithful to pay any price to serve and bring people to Christ.
  6. Be true to the body of Christ; live for Jesus, not self, and make a solid commitment.
  7. Finding our true purpose for the Kingdom requires a local healthy church.
  8. Sharing the Gospel can bring attacks from the enemy, but God will use this for His glory!
  9. Tools: verses your "calling" will help to fulfill your purpose.
  10. Gain a servant's heart and a mutual relationship with your pastor by walking with integrity while being drenched in the Spirit.
  11. A mature servant draws ALL emotional support from our heavenly Father.
  12. Forgive, bless and release others from emotional bondage as God has done for you.
  13. Demonic hope is placing trust in the wrong source and premature trust can be harmful.
  14. Beloved parents, tremble at the privilege that God has entrusted and chosen you to bear good fruit. Instruct your children to trust and serve God first.
  15. Our greatest calling is to lead people to Jesus and to hear the Father say, "Well done."

Heaven and Hell part 1: What Will We Do in Heaven?, By John Fichtner

  1. 1 Corinthians 6:1-3 we will judge the world and angels

  2. Preview to next message - A pastor’s worst nightmare : Christians forming business partnerships with other Christians

  3. Assumptions – #1) When a person is born again they automatically have godly character, #2) In ministering the love of Christ - commanded to hope for the best and believe the best. In business - commanded to expect the worst

  4. Isaiah 9:7- What we will be like in heaven? Phil 3:20-21 (we eagerly wait for Him)

  5. Rabbit trail - Col 3:1-2, Psalm 84:5 (the more you think about eternity the more productive you will be on the earth)

  6. dispel deception – if you think on heaven you are no earthly good

  7. 2 Cor 5:15-16- I live for him and regard no one from a worldly point of view (example: Publix lady)

  8. To get this perspective - Spend hours a day with God - Emotions follow thoughts

  9. Traveling from Canada to Georgia analogy – never get too focused on where you are, but where you are going – set on pilgrimage

  10. Our lowly bodies will be like His glorious body

  11. Resource: Heaven by Randy Alcorn – Rick Warren says most powerful book besides the Bible. Gives definite, probable examples of what will and will not happen in heaven

  12. Will I be able to fly? YES!

  13. Of the increase of His government (space and structure) and peace there will be no end

  14. Massive projects, able to fail (failure is not a sin!)

  15. Phil. 1, 2 Cor. 5- It’s hard to stay here! I want to go home!

  16. Good news/bad news – emotions follow thoughts

  17. Rev. 5979 - we will retain our unique heritage for eternity

  18. Our destination is not heaven, that’s our temporary hang out

  19. New heaven and new earth will be the Garden of Eden x a billion

  20. We have un-redeemed questions about heaven

  21. Every activity will have two senses to it – excitement or reward

  22. Everything will be fun, purposeful, joyful

  23. Possibilities – no sin, but abilities for mistakes and consequences

  24. old things are passed

  25. Animals in heaven? Romans 8:20-21… creation subject to frustration not by its own choice.

  26. Burn in hell? They CHOSE evil and chose to reject God

  27. Animals and plants did not choose evil but by Adam’s choice to bless and destroy

  28. Should consume you every second – Will I see my loved ones burning in hell?

  29. Question should be WHY?

  30. I want to see through God’s eyes

  31. 3 times God has created a perfect world with no sin. Because they did not see how empty life is apart from Him, they rebelled (Satan, Adam, millennium)

  32. Col 3:3 - For you died

  33. Let me show you my life

  34. You are God’s inoculation against future rebellion

  35. We are the only beings that God shed His blood for. You will train the others

  36. You will forever be the pinnacle of God’s love

I Cor 6:4-8
DANGERS of Christians in business with Christians - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

I Cor 6:4-8 DANGERS of Christians in business with Christians by John Fichtner

  1. If you want to have any success in business, you start with reading Proverbs, a chapter a day, for 5 years and that’s ONLY if you had healthy, frugal, good business parents.

  2. Second or third greatest law on Bible interpretation called Hermeneutics – every single verse has an eternal truth

  3. Verses in old testament about sacrifice: eternal truth is the blood must pay for your sins

  4. 1 Corinth 14: Women should not speak in church -- Guidelines so that unbelievers would not be offended

  5. Eternal truth: Don’t do things that are so counter to culture that it causes unbelievers to not hear the gospel

  6. A young and stupid person – someone who meets with two people in an argument

  7. Business principle – everything in writing

  8. By the time they’ve done these word studies, they’re softened, and they’re rinsed, and they’re clean

  9. Mature Christians don’t even go into business with other Christians because they’re mature

  10. If you have a partnership, it’s doomed to destruction, it’s doomed to destroy one day, nothing can stop it

  11. Biblical principles – Cash reserves

  12. You have a gift that’s primarily for family that you brought to business – you think the best of everybody, and you believe things are always going to get better. Great for parenting, dangerous in business. You’re misapplying your gifts.

  13. Pride ambition that causes you to be in a hurry, led by a, fed by a, deep root of insecurity

  14. Biblical principle – Low overhead, grow slowly, do not count on a paycheck for 12-24 months

  15. If you chart history, one-income, middle class homes, throughout history – they don’t exist.

  16. Prepare for the worst case scenario ALL THE TIME, in everything – it’s biblical and it’s Godly

  17. You don’t need a business partner – it’s insecurity or hurry

  18. You may have a 50.1 or 49.9, but it better be in writing – someone needs to be able to fire the other person

  19. Everything in writing

  20. New brilliant ideas are dangerous, crazy, distractions.

  21. You don’t have a brilliant idea, and nobody’s ever HAD a brilliant idea

  22. Have success in this business for a successful business before trying it on your own

  23. Failures do one thing and one thing only – they teach you humility

  24. You learn more from success

  25. The pride assumption is that you can learn a whole business in a year. You don’t learn a tenth of any business in a year, and that’s why for a millennium they would spend 5-10 years learning in an intern type situation

  26. You don’t have a mentor unless they’ve succeeded in YOUR field

  27. Prudent means looking for the negatives in EVERY new venture and new opportunity – it’s a Godly trait

  28. If you’re an optimist, you probably mess up more than most people in business

  29. The deepest root of pride is “I am the whole heart of God, and all of God’s heart is in my heart, and therefore you must not be Godly”

  30. Looking for negatives, the Bible says, specifically, is for business and a certain kind of friends – new friends

  31. It is EVIL to look for negatives in your family because in family – all flaws are obvious

  32. Of course you’re going to fail

Divorce, Separation & Remarriage - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

  1. Jesus said that if you want to understand divorce you first have to go back to the original purpose of marriage
  2. You can’t understand divorce until you understand the purpose of marriage
  3. There are multiple Biblical options of things that you can do that will be pleasing to the Lord if you are considering divorce
  4. The beauty of the Blood of Jesus Christ is He not only forgives but He can take our screw ups and make us richer for it
  5. The Bible says (forcefully and clearly) 6 times that the purpose of marriage is that the two shall become one
  6. The husband has delegated authority to fulfill God’s purposes. He answers to God for the two to become one. (Example of authority: we are not moving forward until we are one, we will listen to each other, talk and pray, we will BOTH change equally) He has permission to operate in this authority as head of the home. He has this authority only and nothing else.
  7. Who you really are is who you are in your marriage!
  8. Malachi 2: 13-16
  9. My kids will always know me better than I know myself
  10. Only 20% of teenagers in America have their natural mother and father living in the home
  11. You both adore each other and walk in oneness or it all blows up
  12. When a teenager has both mom and dad who are married and love each other and like each other and they have watched them becoming one they will say that they KNOW Jesus Christ is real and no one can tell me otherwise
  13. Marriage is a fragile gift and a powerful weapon for the kingdom of God
  14. You are either all sold out for Jesus or you’re a wretched, selfish mess. Straggling the fence is no longer ok.
  15. What if you are the only one in the marriage that wants Jesus glorified? You can either get there or get released.
  16. I usually say to women (all out for Jesus but her mate is not) if you will do everything that I ask you to do within the boundaries of the Word of God, I guarantee you that within five years your life will be great. Either he will be a sold out born again Man of God or he will divorce you; OR you will have Biblical reasons to divorce him and you will be out of this prison.
  17. 1 Corinthians 7:15
  18. The Word says that the dominant influence in the home should be the one who is walking in the Kingdom of Light
  19. You are commanded to dedicate your home to Jesus Christ!
  20. The purpose of your marriage is that the two of you together are 10,000 times more powerful in the kingdom of God than you are separately. This is why you want your marriage to succeed, so that your children will go to heaven and other people will go to heaven.
  21. Biblical grounds of divorce are adultery & ONE time of pornography
  22. 1 Corinthians 7:11 (separation)
  23. In Ezra 9 & 10, GOD blessed 111 men to divorce their wives and blessed them to send their wives. They had to divorce the heathens to walk with God. The people of Israel repented for disobeying the Covenant.
  24. Dominant influence does NOT mean abrasive!
  25. Divorce is not an eternal sin.
  26. Whether your marriage works or not is YOUR choice!
  27. The believer’s job is to dominate the home and dedicate that their home is going forward
  28. If you are not BOTH sold out you are heading towards divorce; if you are both sold out you can have a fantastic marriage.
  29. You both have to ask yourself WHY do you want your marriage to succeed?
  30. Marriage is not a right - it is a gift!
  31. Marriage is a fragile gift; ONE of the THREE most powerful weapons in the Kingdom of God.
  32. The purpose of this gift/weapon is for His Kingdom and if you treat it fragilely and use it for it’s purpose you’ll be the most blessed person on the planet if not, you will lose it.

I Cor 7:10-24
Divorce and Separation pt. 2 - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

  1. Recap: In Ezra 9 & 10, 111 men to divorced their wives with the blessing of God. Jews considered that the point in which they finally started obeying God. The believer is to have the dominant influence in the home. You are to have the stance of you are going to come to Christ. You are saying that you will move heaven and earth to see you come to Christ, that is the dominant focus.
  2. The Lord’s heart on marriage is that the two shall become one
  3. The delegated authority of the husband is that the two shall become one; that is the only authority that the husband has.
  4. 1 Peter 3 the issue is also that men cannot stand to be disrespected. That is lack of submission in a serious sense. The wife is commanded to understand the sensitive nature that men are not supposed to be disrespected.
  5. Husbands have authority to say to their wives, when they need to have a deep discussion they can say that no one is leaving or sleeping until we have found a conclusion that we are both pleased with. I am going to love you, serve you and hear your heart, but I answer to Jesus that we talk and pray. This is authority! You have to do this humbly and graciously.
  6. Marriage is not a right it is a gift; you cannot demand that someone stay married to you.
  7. In your marriage, the first greatest weapon is the spirit of the Word within you, the second greatest weapon is the living body of Christ, and the third is your marriage. You are a gift to each other.
  8. We have to have teammates!
  9. Every person over the next 20yrs will face at least 3 – 5 crisis. This is not a curse or a negative, it’s just truth.
  10. Satan’s goal in the end times of this society is to isolate us. His plan in your marriage is to help keep you isolated; family, church family will all be surface and not really involved.
  11. If you go ahead and divorce your spouse and you have kids, you just lessened your income by ½ million dollars over the course of the rest of your life.
  12. You will have your kids in their 30’s and 40’s in drug rehabs because of the effect of divorce on them.
  13. The cost of divorce is massive!
  14. It is important to build friendships
  15. We must realize the power of God’s Word!!
  16. Ephesians 5: 25 – 27 – easy or hard (Do you want your life easy or do you want your life hard?)
  17. All ongoing marriage strife is your crud messing with your spouse’s crud (attitudes, overreaction points, judgments, opinions, etc.).  We try to scrape off our mate’s crud and we just end up getting more crud.
  18. Our souls are supposed to shine where people can see Jesus
  19. YOU have to decide whether you want your life easy or hard; your soul has crud on it and living the Christian life by your own will power is hard.
  20. You have to decide whether you want to live the hard way or the easy way. You go two days without the living Word, interaction, and dialogue, you are going to look like crud (frying pan analogy).
  21. The more God softens your heart you will begin to like your spouse again
  22. You have to get to point where the only thing you care about is not ending your marriage or keeping your marriage stable, but the only thing you care about is your spouse going to heaven.
  23. Men CANNOT handle abrasive challenges from women. There is never a reason to be abrasive. Men are either for you or will kill you; with men it’s either I hate you or I love you.
  24. Being honest NEVER means being abrasive
  25. Be honest with a man upfront. Two mistakes that women make is we think that men understand things and men can smell a woman who’s hinting a million miles away. Men consider hinting as manipulation. Men intentionally go ignorantly stupid when women hint.
  26. Women must learn male speak!
  27. All men in the flesh are bullies
  28. Negotiations and trades in your marriage are very helpful
  29. Women, treat your husband like a man. Love him, serve him, and bless him. He will then think you are the best wife in the world.
  30. We have so many weapons!
  31. 2 Corinthians 7: 9-11 (basically says to turn all of our pain and screw ups into passion.)
  32. Bring the lost to Jesus Christ!
  33. James 5:20
  34. We must live every moment to bring others to Christ

Types of Christ

Pastor John Fichtner

Typology 1 by John Fichtner

  1. 1 Corinthians 10

  2. Typology is seeing Jesus – figuratively – in the Old Testament

    1. Adam was a “type” of Who was to come; Sarah and Hagar were a “type” of two covenants

    2. The “law” – the whole Old Testament – is only a shadow of the good things that are coming, not a realities themselves

  3. Free typology books online: “Gleanings in Genesis” & “Gleanings in Exodus” by Arthur Pinks

  4. Typology is so rich and makes the Word come alive

  5. Cloud leading the Israelites

    1. Shows me that there’s a comfort & a protection in water baptism

    2. The cloud led them

    3. When you’re baptized, you hear the voice of God more clearly

  6. “Egypt” in typology always represents “the world”

  7. Everyone who sins is a slave to sin (John 8)

  8. “Exodus” is salvation

  9. Exodus 17 – God telling Moses to “strike the rock” when the people were thirsty

  10. “Manna” means, “what is it?”

  11. Every time they (the Israelites) moved, the rock followed them

  12. Strike the rock ONCE because Jesus would only suffer ONCE for all mankind

  13. Inner-healing is about breaking curses

  14. Selfishness is the doorway to demons – it’s always, only selfishness

  15. Demons have more power on your life IF you model their selfishness

  16. Jesus is the fulfillment of the ages, of every Old Testament story

    1. Jesus is also the fulfillment of EVERY desire of my heart

  17. Your marriage and kids will not fulfill the desires of your heart

  18. When you find your fulfillment in Jesus, you will overflow and be able to serve others

  19. Daniel 9 (end times timeline)

  20. Luke 21:20-34 (end times only mention in the New Testament)

  21. No small children today (this generation) will die a natural death

  22. For me (PJ) to be your pastor, you have to live every minute for eternity

  23. My (PJ) goal is to prepare you for persecution – it’s more than storing up food and guns

    1. When persecution comes, lay down your guns, go outside & start preaching!

    2. When you lose your life for HIS sake you find it

  24. 3 Things to do to prepare for persecution:

    1. Live having already brought people to Christ – it gets easier when the battle gets intense

    2. Memorize the Word – if they take your Bible away, you still have the Word inside you

    3. Love and serve the Lord – plus your natural family, spiritual family, & the lost

  25. LIE: if you follow and love Jesus, then everything in your life will go well…

  26. Why are you surprised that you’re going through a fiery trial? That’s your LIFE.

  27. The “good soil” holds onto nothing but the Word

  28. The Church shines the brightest when they’re persecuted

  29. 1 Corinthians 15:19

  30. God wants our lives to be calm so we can be more focused on the Kingdom

    1. But WHEN there’s not calm, that’s when we’re made more like Him

  31. 3 Questions I ask when facing a hard time:

    1. Have I missed wisdom?

    2. Anything in my heart that You want to cleanse and clean up?

    3. Am I LIVING to make Him known?

  32. God does NOT have to make our lives easier; it rains on the just and the un-just

  33. God allows “stuff” to happen so we can SHINE BRIGHTER – take everything away, and we will say that NONE of that fulfills me!

  34. Q: How do you know if you’re selfish?

    1. Give me 3 close people to you that I can interview

    2. Does this person LIVE TO GIVE? (in every area)

  35. Hebrews 12:6 – those whom God loves He disciplines!

  36. You go to a church to be healed, so you can get to work

  37. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others

  38. Be gracious and secure (1 Corinthians 10:25)

  39. If you give to a “taker” – someone with a perverted level of selfishness – you bring them further AWAY from Christ, not closer towards Christ

I Cor. 11:1-16

Gifts of the Spirit - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 1by John Fichtner : Overview of the Gifts series

  1. You can know, with confidence, the gifts in your life are a fingerprint of God on your soul that no one else in the world possesses in their life.

  2. Two types of people in the world: passionate (on fire, but possibly dissatisfied with life) or content (peaceful, but lacking life)

  3. Everyone has a gift mix; top gifts are a strong mark/indicator of your soul

  4. Understanding the balance of the gifts in the body of Christ will bring contentment, stability, and calm

  5. Grk. word “pneumatikos” relates to speaking to spirituality, not necessarily gifts

  6. Paul draws focus to the fierce, personal, permanent breath and wind of the Holy Spirit, which defines purpose and destiny in our lives

  7. Three definitions of spiritual gifts mix:

    1. Individual purpose/style

    2. Part of the Spirit that belongs to you

    3. Part of the Spirit that blows eager energy in your soul (passions)

  8. Our souls are like landscapes: places that lack wind die, places with constant wind flourish and produce

  9. In every soul, there are wind tunnels – places where energy builds and passions come alive

  10. Of the bricks you want to build confidence and security in your soul, one of the top five would be spiritual gifts

  11. Hearing the voice of God regarding this has two legs:

    1. Wisdom (practicality, makes sense, bears fruit, seek counsel)

    2. Revelation (peace, intuitive sense)

  12. 90% of confidence in Christ is found in spiritual gifts

  13. Any gift can be self-righteous and judge the others

  14. We can learn to grow in our gifts by learning from those that are stronger in the area

  15. God wants us to burn with zeal for the gifts in our lives

  16. You can be passionate and completely content with the gifts in your soul

I Cor. 12:3-27
Gifts of the Spirt Pt.2 - UD

Pastor John Fitchner

Gifts of the Spirit par 2 by John Fichtner : Understanding Role of the Gifts

  1. 5 Review points from previous sermon

    1. Not covering Eph. 4/1 Peter 1 gift lists

    2. Main way to determine gift mix: contrast them to each other - two tests to measure: how much passion and increased ability

    3. Can develop weak gifts from similar friends, not out of performance orientation

    4. You cannot be strong in every gift! (I maximize my measure of my faith in my gifts)

    5. When you understand how the gifts function, you can be both passionate and content

  2. It does not please God for you to focus completely on your weak areas

  3. If you take your weakest gifts and boost them to average, your strengths will quadruple

  4. Two aspects of American culture that deceive believers:

    1. 90% of Americans are convinced about their after death destination without reading New Testament all the way through one time

    2. Confessing “Jesus is Lord” is inaccurate – Jesus is my sole reason for living!

  5. The body of Christ is “complex souls moving in a single direction”

  6. There are multiple multiples of spiritual gifts, but all flowing from one spirit

  7. Unbiblical statement: I’m really excited to learn what my spiritual gift is! (this is singular; EVERYONE has a gift mix!)

  8. No one has the same 15 gift mix as anyone else

  9. Multiple multiples: personal gift mix + different area + different style + energy (results)

  10. 1 Cor. 12 explains why connection in the local church is important

  11. 8 questions that are answered in this chapter (listed in handout)

I Cor. 12:6-7
Gifts of the Spirit Pt. 3 - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part by John Fichtner 3: The Gift of Serving

  1. Recognize each member belongs to everyone else (Rms.12:4)

  2. You only get credit in your gifts when they are handled with such joy, humility, and graciousness that people who are weak in that area want to grow (interdependency)

  3. Themes of helping gifts:

    1. Serving – what can I do for you?

    2. Encouraging – You are wonderful; you can do this!

    3. Mercy – I feel your pain

  4. Gifts that tend to clash, when in the flesh, can be better defined according to theme phrase

  5. Serving clashes with faith (what can I do vs. you don’t have to do anything)

  6. Gift that judges leaders the most & second most negative: servants

  7. Servants desire not to be seen or take the lead; however, if in a leadership position, they must be seen and accept responsibility

  8. Leaders call for a team, whereas servants see individual needs

  9. Servants can judge based on 5% of leaders’ ugly motives instead of 95% purity of heart (be careful – God will do the same in return)

  10. Understand the balance of gifts in different situations by their reactions:

    1. Death – encouragers speak encouragement, servants offer assistance, merciful people offer empathy

  11. Servants must understand truth (boundary) of “If I serve people, some may serve as well, but most will become selfish”

  12. A servants’ need for appreciation is the heart of God to keep them connected to others

  13. Servants feeling underappreciated need to be vocal and set boundaries (I will stop serving because I’m no longer a blessing, but a burden to you)

  14. Servants can require appreciation from others when servants are walking in the Spirit (shows maturity)

  15. Short term goals brings joy to heart of servants because they take commitment seriously (What can I do for you now?)

  16. Servants must allow others the joy of serving through delegation

  17. Healthy servants are able to say no and pace themselves

  18. There are some things we are called to that may not be difficult, but are completely possible when full of the Spirit

Gifts of the Spirit Pt. 4 - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 4 by John Fichtner : The Gift of Teaching

  1. Be extra cautious when listening to this sermon – most people will know quickly if they have this gift

  2. Famous teachers in Christian history: Augustine, Charles Spurgeon, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  3. Definition of teacher: someone that takes complicated subjects and explain them thoroughly

  4. Teaching is a misunderstood gift – if you:

    1. Like to study? Gift of word of knowledge

    2. Like to understand? Gift of wisdom

    3. Teach at work? Gift of leadership with specialized expertise and speaking opp.

  5. To be a teacher, God’s command is to teach every subject that speaks to everyone the whole counsel of God with the same inflection, length, heart, and emphasis as Christ

  6. Teachers bring fresh manna every time

  7. Appeals:

    1. If you think you have this gift? Run!

      1. It’s a gift that carries MUCH responsibility

      2. It can be used to intentionally hurt others (deception/false teaching)

    2. Understand true teachers are not pastors (ex. TD Jakes, Andy Stanley)

  8. God is raising the standard of teaching in the body

  9. Request from PJ: PLEASE listen to multiple teachers/styles weekly

  10. To teach the very words of God:

    1. Solid, clear, accurate bible study

    2. Hear God’s heart on the subject

    3. Understand the law of 1st mention

  11. Guidelines:

    1. Deal with personal bias before opening the book – God usually shows areas of deception in the heart

    2. Deal with personal ignorance – avoid teaching according to personal preference

  12. Teachers teach about every point of interaction of man and the Word vs. a leader that has a few life messages to explain/expound

  13. Five questions will show the heart of those looking for/chasing after the gift of teaching or already given the gift (listed on handout)

  14. PLEASE show honor to the gift of teaching

Romans 12:6-7 - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 5 by John Fichtner : The Gift of Encouragement

  1. Encouragers are incredibly happy and never tire of telling you how amazing you are, and they mean it every time!

  2. If you don’t have/are not strong in this gift, fight the impulse to judge their sincerity; just admit they’re more gifted

  3. Everyone has all the gifts – it’s just about measure

  4. Everyone can learn to be 70/100 in this gift!

  5. This is the ONLY gift that God takes on as a name – Paraclete (encourager) is the name of the Holy Spirit

  6. God’s personality? A billion times more cheerful than the most cheerful encourager

  7. Encouragers will, like God, walk beside a friend, planning to be there indefinitely, lifting them, encouraging, and speaking life

  8. Recognize 98/100 times God speaks to us, He’s saying, “I am for you, I am with you, and you’re going to make it!”

  9. The gift of encouragement doesn’t clash with any gift – it only doubles them

    1. Servants become cheerful

    2. Merciful people bring courage to the shameful

    3. Givers bring motivation/strength

    4. Leaders encourage toward success

    5. Faithful people stand with you, doubling your faith

  10. Encouragers tend to believe everyone is telling the truth and are all wonderful

  11. Encouragers have to learn discernment, create boundaries, and have parameters

  12. Encouragers learn to allow others to turn pain into positive

  13. Leaders make quick decisions because they’re confident in their gifts; encouragers make quick decisions because decisions distract from people!

  14. When encouragers have an idea, you don’t have to support the idea, but the first words out of your mouth must be positive – this is the heart of God

    1. They see how the person is more important than the decision

    2. They will see/heart cautions better

    3. They will help you see truth more clearly

    4. You can guide through praise

Romans 12:6-7
Giving - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 6 by John Fichtner : The Gift of Giving

  1. Those with this gift are called to money, interested in money, and/or have abilities with money

  2. When people have this gift, it doesn’t automatically mean they’ll be wealthy or not encounter financial trials

  3. Proof of being taught good financial practices at home:

    1. Parents tithe?

    2. Contentment in living below means?

    3. Parents taught budgeting?

  4. God calls us to hate the hypnotic pull of money; money itself is impartial

  5. Givers don’t give financially without expecting a spiritual return on their investment (that’s not love!)

  6. Givers use money to propel people forward spiritually

  7. Don’t try to minister to a spiritual need when there’s an overwhelming financial need, and don’t try to meet a financial need without requiring spiritual movement

  8. Shrewdness combined with selfishness is manipulation; shrewdness combined with permanent soul change is wisdom

  9. Those trusted with money and proven true can be trusted with the souls of men.

  10. Money’s hypnotic lie: “If you have more of me, you’ll be safe, valued, important, and in control”

  11. #1 place to put money when investing in spiritual matters: children (natural rewards are a shadow of spiritual rewards)

  12. The sweetest, most fun time in life is when you give over the tithe to others

  13. Givers know to give anonymously:

    1. Keeps them from becoming a savior replacement

    2. Protects themselves as well as recipient

  14. Every giver wants to know what’s the return on their investment

  15. Areas to give: kids, orphanage, missions, and well established structures

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 7 by John Fichtner : The Gift of Leadership

  1. Single greatest factor in success in life: leadership

  2. Everybody has gift of leadership (three factors determine level: how much, already, how much did you grow, and different positions in life)

  3. When you exert influence/mold others, that’s leadership

  4. Spoudé: on assignment from your master and bring results back to him, bring an account for life with diligence

  5. 2 groups in highest leadership positions for which spoudé is a strong motivator: pastors and parents

  6. Leaders must understand they will be judged and slandered because others correctly perceive the leaders’ lives are easier

  7. Leaders, in the Spirit, lives troubled by lesser demons

  8. The only tool turns mind, soul, and body back to God is leadership

  9. Leaders recognize they learn more when walking through a situation with someone than actually going through – they can remain objective and see clearly

  10. Training for leaders – find a leader, take what fits personal soul, and put it into practice

  11. Extremists, when someone under them fails, bash others or self – neither pleases God

  12. If you ever get into a situation where you think you’ll help change things, they will change you for the worse

  13. Leaders – I will learn and find ways to have what you got

I Cor. book study pt. 40
Gifts of the Spirit pt.9 - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 9 by John Fichtner : The Gifts of Wisdom and Knowledge

  1. “Word” in 1 Co. 12 should actually be “message” – this is in reference to the message of wisdom and knowledge

  2. Does your life carry the message of wisdom and knowledge

  3. Knowledge is not just studying, but acquiring an intimate understanding and relationship with the subject

  4. When you open the Bible, always ask, “What is your heart about this, Lord?”

  5. Wisdom is understanding “why” and “how” & using every ounce of knowledge, grace, and anointing to make Him known

  6. No person can ever say, “Look at my life and see wisdom” – can only be known by looking at influence on others

  7. Can I help others connect to Jesus’ heart?

  8. It’s not about the gift – it’s the message of wisdom

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 13: The Gift of Discerning of Spirits

  1. This gift has the ability to sense/perceive angels & demons to remind us there is reality behind the veil

  2. This is not the real world, but the veil protects us

  3. Evidence/symptoms of this gift: walking into normal, regular situations and getting a strange feeling, either positive or negative

  4. Never draw conclusions from an impression

  5. The spirits we discern could be an actual person’s spirit, angels, or demons – no one knows

  6. It is biblical, though, that Christians see and interact with angels (ex. 4 times in Acts)

  7. Allow members of the team around you to include this gift

  8. This is the only gift that does NOT have a test for validity; thus, biblical parameters are set extra high

  9. Be sure to understand God’s word and heart on the subject

  10. Flaky, dysfunctional people that claim this gift never stay put for longer than 5 years and find a way to move on while pointing fingers at others

  11. Examine: take time to carefully see as a group, wanting to approve this gift

  12. God’s hope: move from shutting down to flowing with team wanting to approve this gift in safety

The Gifts of Prophecy, Tongues & Interpretation - UD

Pastor John Fichtner

Gifts of the Spirit part 14: The Gifts of Prophecy, Tongues, and Interpretation

  1. When I give a prophecy, it’s not about ME!

  2. Paul wrote a whole chapter about this gift to show the importance of selflessness

  3. The two gifts that give more supernatural confidence (sense of God’s power moving through you) are miracles and prophecy, which can breed arrogance

  4. You’re not allowed to bring self into prophecy

  5. You will never a pure prophetic word on earth – we only know in part

  6. Training brings safety/confidence in gift

  7. Theme of 1 Co. 14: never flaunt freedom to a point that causes weak or unsaved to stumble in corporate worship

  8. Biblical truth: if there is no interpretation of tongues spoken aloud, it is then for personal use only

  9. Don’t use the gifts of the spirit to hijack the service and draw attention

  10. Everyone can give a prophetic word, but not everyone has a strong gift of prophecy

  11. When Paul addresses women in the church, he implores the church to be culturally sensitive to keep from unkind distractions (women speaking may offend someone enough to distract from God)

  12. There’s nothing more serious than distracting away from God’s purpose and plan
